Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Chen Chuandong signed with Dr. Firas Al-Hawari, Minister of Health, handover documents for the second batch of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Chinese government on November 4. At a signing ceremony held at the Sport-City Vaccination Center, Ambassador Chen hailed the fruitful cooperation between China and Jordan in fighting the pandemic, which enriches bilateral strategic partnership with genuine friendly sentiments, and builds towards a global community of health with real action. He recalled Jordan’s active role in the clinical trial of Sinopharm vaccines and early approval for its emergency use, referring to Jordanians’ enthusiasm in taking Sinopharm jabs as a vote of confidence in Chinese vaccines. The Ambassador spoke highly of Jordan’s progress in containing the pandemic, particularly the national campaign of vaccination. ‘Jordan took the lead to include foreign nationals and refugees in its national vaccination programmes. This is a testimony of Jordanian tradition of kind-heartedness’, said the Ambassador. Ambassador Chen highlighted China’s efforts in making vaccine distribution equitable at the global level and ensuring accessibility and affordability for developing countries. China has so far provided over 1.6 billion doses of vaccines to over 100 countries and international organizations and will provide over 2 billion doses by the end of this year. China has announced to donate 100 million US dollars to COVAX to help developing countries acquire vaccines. The Ambassador emphasized that China is ready to continue working with all parties, making sure that no country is left behind at the global line of defense, and that vaccines will be truly for the people. Minister Hawari thanked the Chinese government and people for the generous support and assistance provided to Jordan, which reflects profound friendship between the two countries. He said that the donated vaccines will benefit Jordan’s national vaccination campaign and protect people’s health and safety. |
