Ambassador Yue Xiaoyong

Grand Hyatt Hotel, Amman

(28th September, 2011)

On behalf of the Chinese Embassy to Jordan and myself, may I thank you heartily for joining us in this wonderful evening celebrating the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

This Year of Tiger is particularly significant for China. It marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Over the past 90 years, the CPC has been leading the Chinese people with all ethnic groups through united efforts to strive constantly for national liberation and modernization with immense success.

As you know, the Revolution of 1911 led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen 100 years ago overthrew the feudal authoritarian regime and boosted China's social progress. It is CPC that has inherited glorious tradition of the Revolution and carried out the historic mission in leading the Chinese people to march onto a new era of great national rejuvenation. 62 years since the new China was founded on Oct. 1st, 1949, especially 33 years since our reform and opening-up in 1978, we the Chinese people have doubled our efforts in searching for the path of development conforming to actual situation in China, and successfully pushed forward our building of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Our modernization drive is most dynamic and great achievements are there for all to see.

This year, despite the fact that world economy is recovering with serious bumps and sputters, the steady and fast economic growth of China has been maintained. China's GDP was up by 9.6% in the first half of the year. This year is also the 1st year in our starting China's new 12th Five-Year Plan in national economic and social development, which laid down the guiding principles, goals and major tasks for the next five years. With the plan, we are focusing more on shifting of model of growth for a balanced, coordinated and sustainable development, paying great attention to sharing benefits of our reform and development with all our people. A solid foundation will be hence laid for our new efforts in construction of all-round better-off society. In 2015, China's total economic output is to reach $8.6 trillion with a import worth $10 trillion. China will be able to further expand its economic and trade cooperation with the rest of the world and make even greater contribution to a stable and sustainable growth of global economy.

China cannot and will not develop itself in isolation. The more achievements China obtains, the more efforts it will be able to make in safeguarding global peace and common prosperity. We will continue to uphold the banner of peace. We will development and cooperation, pursue an independent foreign policy of peace, unswervingly take the path of peaceful development with a opening-up strategy of mutual benefit. We will actively engage ourselves in international affairs and continue to join hands with peoples in international society to build the world into a harmonious one of enduring peace and common prosperity.

At the beginning of the second decades of the 21st century, China's Peaceful Development white paper was released. Our government declares solemnly again in the paper that peaceful development is the strategic choice made by China in its efforts for our nation to be real strong and prosperous. It is the sole path followed for China in doing more to promote world peace and common prosperity. As you all can see, our peaceful development strategy is totally transparent, our goal lofty, policy clear and determination firm.

China and Jordan friendly ties are strong and promising. Over the past 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, owing to the great importance attached and guidance given by President Hu Jintao and His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Sino-Jordanian relationship has enjoyed fresh growth with each passing year. Top level dialogues and working level exchanges are well kept, our mutual political trust enhanced, close communication and coordination on the international and regional arena strengthened. With joint efforts, Sino-Jordanian trade increased in 2011 with a total amount of $1.6 billion in the first seven months, an increase of 32.3% comparing to that of 2010. The import from Jordan to China meanwhile reached $150 million, growing by 123.3% compared to that of last year. Our exchanges and cooperation in cultural, educational and many other fields have been expanded.

We highly appreciate government and people of Jordan and Arab countries as a whole for unwaveringly supporting us in questions regarding China's core interests such as Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang. China will always firmly support the just cause of the Palestinian and Arab people to restore their legitimate national rights. At the time when the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Jordan is approaching in 2012, I am fully confident that, with continuous hard work by both Chinese and Jordanian governments and peoples, Sino-Jordanian friendship will see further growth, our all-round mutual beneficial cooperation greater expansion.

Thank you.
